Tomatillos, from the Solanaceae family, species Physalis philadelphica, originate from Mexico and Central America. The plant grows 40 – 100 cm tall with broad, ovate leaves 10-20 cm long. Tomatillos are small, round green fruits enclosed in papery husks. They are rich in vitamin C and fiber, supporting digestion and immune health. Tomatillos are mostly used cooked in sauces (salsa verde), stews, or grilled. Store them in husks at room temperature and refrigerate once husked.
