Sesame or Sim Sim, from the Pedaliaceae family, species Sesamum indicum, originates from India
and Africa. This flowering plant grows up to 1.2 meters tall, with opposite lance-shaped leaves 4–14
cm long and tubular flowers. Seed pods hold small, oil-rich seeds rich in calcium, magnesium, and
lignans that support bone strength and heart health. Used in baking, oils, and as garnishes, sesame
should be stored in airtight containers to prevent rancidity.
