Avocado, a nutrient – dense fruit from the lauraceae family ( species persea americana ), is native to southern Mexico and Central America. The evergreen tree typically grows 10 to 20 meters tall, with a straight trunk around 30 to 60 cm in diameter and a dense crown of dark green, elliptical leaves measuring 10-25 cm long, arranged alternately. The fruit is pear – shaped or round, with leathery, dark green to purplish skin and soft, buttery flesh surrounding a large seed. Avocadoes are rich heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, folate, and vitamin K, E, and B6, supporting cardiovascular health, skin elasticity, and nutrient absorption. They are commonly sliced onto toast, mashed into guacomole, added to salads, or blended into smoothies. Store unripe avocadoes at room temperature until they yield slightly to pressure, then refrigerate to extend shelf life. The tree’s leaves and pits are also used in traditional remedies, and avocado oil is prized in both culinary and cosmetic products.
