Onions, from the Amaryllidaceae family, species Allium cepa, originated in Central Asia. They grow
bulbs underground with hollow green leaves above reaching 30–90 cm in height. The bulbs can be
white, red, or yellow, with layered flesh and a pungent aroma. Rich in vitamin C, sulfur compounds,
and flavonoids, onions support immunity and heart health. They are used as a base in nearly every
savory dish. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place.
